How Vibrating Wire Strain Sensing Works and Why it is Important For Companies

Wire strain gauges are devices that are of utmost importance in any company with lots of wires. Evidently, that would include each and every company irrespective of its background. These devices measure strain on a wire by testing the wire in a certain way. Vibrating wire strain gauges are used in geotechnical applications as well as in civil engineering. It contains a wire that is stretched and tensioned wire that is vibrating. Resonant frequency of the wire is calculated upon subjecting the wire to tension and the increase in the frequency is noted. The increase in the resonant frequency is then referred to for inferring the capacity of the wire to stretch.

Another method to apply the vibrating kind ofgauges for wire strains is to initiate oscillation of the wire in order to note the frequency. This is achieved by passing current from a coil that is kept very near, but not touching, to the wire. There is a magnetic field generated due to passing of current from the coil because of which the wire exhibits to and fro movement in response to attraction and repulsion nature of the magnetic field.

The result of these gauges is very accurate even under tough surroundings and has been tested for maximum performance. The frequency obtained from the procedure above is not affected by noise waves under usual conditions. But the foremost advantage for geotechnical field is that due to these devices, frequency may be transmitted to far away distances without losing any signal during transmission.
